New immersive theatre work, based on the much-loved legend Hinemoa and Tutanekai.
Hand-picked by Artistic Director Carla van Zon, RAW features works at different stages of development – from concept onwards. Artists’ ideas are presented in the raw and give you an opportunity to get an insider’s view of the various processes, artistic practices and hard work that go into creating a production.
This new immersive theatre work, based on the much-loved legend Hinemoa and Tutanekai (Te Arawa’s-own Romeo and Juliet), challenges the boundaries of conventional theatre. Creators Inside Out Productions with Scotty Morrison present a rehearsed showing of Act One. Performed in te reo Māori with English subtitles, Act One is set in pre-colonial New Zealand. The story unfolds on the shores of Lake Rotorua invoking the politics of Māori society.
