CARABOSSE FIRE GARDEN

From Stonehenge to the gates of the Kremlin, Marrakkech to Mexico City, French fire alchemists Carabosse are bringing their golden glow to the lower slopes of the Auckland Domain for Auckland Arts Festival 2016.

Carabosse are world-renowned for transforming familiar city parks and urban spaces into large scale fire-gardens, after-dark fairytale places of pleasure where one’s deepest imaginings can be set free.

Using cascades of candles, flaming flower-pots and fiery scrap metal sculptures, each dream-like garden is a flickering artwork, leading the visitor on a trail of illuminated paths where every twist reveals the unexpected and extraordinary in  a world of dreams, magic and surprise.

Imagine towering, steam punk-like mechanical structures, blazing balls of fire suspended from trees, streams of molten lava, and thousands of individual flames incorporated into cast-off clothing. The haunting strands of live music and sound wafting across the evening air to create a hypnotic, mesmerising landscape shaped by the fascinating and primal appeal of fire.

As the sky darkens and night falls, wander amongst the Domain’s trees at will, and let the heat, light and passion of Carabosse touch your heart and fill up your senses.

Compagnie Carabosse is a collective comprised of musicians, dreamers, metal-workers, performers and old-soul fire-brands, and is based in Saint-Christophe-sur-Roc in western France. Formed in 1988, the group is world-known for its large scale installations staged in public spaces  - the bigger the better - across Europe and beyond. Collaborating with New Zealand musicians and storytellers, Carabosse’s Fire Garden will be designed specifically for Auckland and the landscape of the Domain.
