the essence of this impassioned production is its exceptional dancers and their supercharged relationships

In a nutshell:
It takes 12 to tango / Super-charged dance superstars / Passion and seduction – Argentine style

m¡longa, choreographed by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui (Babel) and tango superstar Nelida Rodriguez de Aure, crosses borders from the streets of Belgium to the calle of Buenos Aires where tango dance and music are a way of being; a place of passion and unparalleled beauty.

Belgium-born Cherkaoui captures the rituals of the mjlonga, and catapults them in the 21st century, with a heady and seductive mix of Latin aesthetics and state-of-the art video design. Under the guidance of Nelida Rodriguez de Aure, 12 dancers create virtuoso tango, re-forged by Cherkaoui’s signature liquid-limbed choreographic style into a fiery, decadent, dazzling dance.

Let m¡longa cast its magic spell with searing duets that defy the laws of physics, flick-knife footwork  and electrifying ensemble dance.

A five-piece orchestra with bandoneon plays a score merging vintage tunes by Astor Piazzolla with newer compositions to propel 10 masterful tango dancers and two contemporary dancers on. State-of-the-art video design lands you smack-bang in the sass and hubbub of the streets and late night bars of Buenos Aires.

Far more than a dance for stars, m¡longa offers the audience the chance to explore the beauty, ferocious energy and alluring intimacy of tango.
